Modified (Minimum) Eagle Medium, often abbreviated as MEM, is a cell culture medium developed from the original Eagle’s Minimal Essential Medium (EMEM). It is a widely used basal medium for the cultivation of various adherent and suspension cell lines in vitro. Modified Eagle Medium contains essential nutrients, vitamins, amino acids, and inorganic salts necessary to support cell growth and proliferation. Additionally, it may be supplemented with serum, growth factors, hormones, or other additives to meet the specific requirements of different cell types and experimental conditions. MEM is commonly utilized in biomedical research, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries for cell culture, virus propagation, and vaccine production.
