Glutaraldehyde
Glutaraldehyde is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, commonly used as a disinfectant, sterilizing agent, and fixative in various industries, including healthcare, laboratory, and manufacturing. It is a powerful biocide that effectively kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms by cross-linking their proteins and disrupting their cellular structure. Glutaraldehyde is often used for cold sterilization of medical equipment, such as endoscopes and surgical instruments, as well as for disinfection of surfaces and water treatment. In addition, it serves as a fixative in histology and pathology to preserve tissue specimens for microscopic examination. Despite its effectiveness, glutaraldehyde can be hazardous if mishandled and must be used with proper precautions to ensure safety.
